Students and Teachers had a Day Off to Celebrate Indonesia’s 79th Independence

by Daniel Lex (Level 10) and Owen Candera Khoe (Level 9), with support from Terrence Dominic Themajaya (Level 10)

On Saturday, 16 August 2024, DIA School Celebrated the 79th independence of Indonesia, at Rumah K.I.T.A, Punclut. The celebration started with a flag hoisting ceremony, followed by which is also sometimes called PERAK which means pesta rakyat. We celebrated our Independence on 17 August 1945.

Teachers, board members, and students on duty were to arrive at Rumah K.I.T.A. at 8:30 a.m. to do one last rehearsal before the ceremony was held. The ceremony lasted for 25 minutes until everyone was briefed and grouped for the games. There were 5 games in total with points to earn in every game hosted.

The whole school was grouped into 4 groups, each named after famous traditional Indonesian dishes, consisting of around 9 people each where we had to come up with a group chant, to represent the amount of prizes, depending on what ranking your group was placed on. The prizes were local snacks, snacks, such as chips, sweets, and  fruit tea.
